Kent1600 New South Wales - mid season review

We are now at the half way point of the 2016 NSW Formula Ford Championship but unlike last year where defending champion William Powers drove away from the field and dominated.

This season has proven to be quite different and very competitive with four drivers all in the chance to become the New South Wales Champion.

Simon Hodges leads the championship but he's only just leading the title hunt by 32 points over his team mate Aaron Grech who sits in fourth. Whilst only 30 points separate himself from equal second placed Daniel Holihan and Mark Lowing.
Hodges still has a slight buffer over the other three drivers chasing him but he can't afford an error or a DNF in the second half of the season.

Daniel Holihan sits in equal second, what began with a strong start to the year has more or less fizzled out which now sees the veteran chasing the 8 ball. He is now the only driver inside the top four who remains winless at the midpoint of the season.
Holihan might not be the fastest driver in the field but he has a good track record of rarely DNF'ing and remains one of those drivers that you can never rule out until the chequer flag falls for the final time this season.

Mark Lowing remains the underdog as he's the only man who can stop Anglo Australian Motorsport's 10th Championship in succession. Lowing had a rough start to the season after starting from scratch with a new car and new tyres.

A rear suspension failure cost Lowing a DNF in the early going but he has come back fighting the past two rounds at his more favoured race track Sydney Motorsport Park.
Last but not least is recent winner Aaron Grech. A few years ago Grech actually won on debut but never completed a full season back in 2012. This season has proven to be a lot more different. The former Anglo Australian Motorsport engineer struggled in the early going with an engine failure much like rival Mark Lowing.

Grech pretty much needs to win nearly every race from here on out for the rest of the season if he wants to make a statement. Only time will tell, who will come out on top. But when you have four veterans racing for the same bit of road anything is bound to happen.
